The master will act as the highest officer on board. No instructions or directions from the Company may encroach upon the master’s authority or possibility to give orders in questions concerning safety, security and the environment protection. He is by the company given all necessary support and authority to perform his duties properly and in a safe manner. He will issue appropriate orders and instructions in a clear and simple manner.
The master has the overall responsibility in safety and environmental protection issues with the power to take the measures and give the orders he considers necessary. All persons onboard have the responsibility to obey these orders. He will implement policies and observe compliance with the policies.
The master has the responsibility for the ship to be seaworthy prior to a voyage.
He will follow and comply with the ship’s flag state legislation. He shall also ensure that the ship is kept in proper condition during the voyage. He shall ensure that all employees on board are given the necessary knowledge of the ship and of basic safety regulations and measure to be taken in the event of an emergency. The master will ensure that all necessary certificates are on board and that they are valid.
